In this passage Paul compares his new reality as a Christian with being in a footrace. He now realizes that he has not yet attained the perfection that he thought he once had as a Pharisee, but was rather “reaching forth” and following after and giving his life toward a certain goal. Paul gives us five essentials for winning the race.
